Well, at least that's done.
Yesterday afternoon was the big reveal for the new Spring Professional Learning Series that will be taking place at the high school for the remainder of the year. The explanation of the program was shared between myself and my partner, and unfortunately, it had to happen at the end of the first faculty meeting back from Christmas break. Booooooo!
Needless to say, everyone was ready to run for the doors by the time the 'agenda' finally got around to us, so we got a lot of glazed eyeballs and vacant expressions. But let's be honest, I would be (and kind of was) in the same frame of mind!
We used a Slideshow for some visuals during our explanation, and tried to keep it short and sweet so as not to overwhelm but still provide some basics to keep everyone updated. We rounded out the info session with a 'pre-quiz' to assess what our faculty knew about Blended Learning Models, which is the focus for our Professional Learning.
The Actual Topic
As we described it to the faculty, the whole point of the Professional Learning Series is to take the focus off of the devices and apps, which were the focus of the faculty meetings last year, and place an emphasis on strong pedagogy and instructional styles. We are going to be 'teaching' the faculty about different aspects of the Blended Learning Model through the use of Blended Learning Models. That wasn't a typo; we will set up PL sessions based on the different Learning Models addressed on Blended Learning Universe, during which participants will actually learn about the different Learning Models. It is our hope that modeling each of the models will lead to maximum retention and understanding, as well as sprinkling in some different tools and mediums for learning.
Supplementals
Here are some links to important supplemental documents we will be using:
* The slideshow we used for our Big Reveal
* The tentative schedule that we are using for the semester
* The pre-quiz on Blended Learning Models
Coming up next, an in-depth look at what it takes to design and build a successful Professional Learning session.
